Osteonecrosis (ON) & RTHR (right total hip repl)

by hangten, Oct 23, 2007 04:47PM
I was dx'd w/ON back in May after misdiagnosed as having OA, deg disc disease and osteoporosis.  Don't get me wrong, I do have those diseases, but they were not what was causing my excruciating pain in my hip, groin, thigh down to my knee.

I had a RTHR in July by an orthopedic surgeon.  I had asked him before the surgery if he had experience in dealing with ON bcz I learned from other ON patients that it is very important to pick a doctor who has done quite a few THR's on ON patients bcz it can get alittle more complicated than a normal THR say on a patient who has arthritis.

I was at end stage ON-with the femur collapsed and had 2 bone cysts on my right hip-left hip same but more pain on right than left so we elected to do right hip first.

I'm still experiencing alot of pain (although not as excruciating as b4 surgery) in my groin area and pain in front of leg to and including the knee.  I explained this to my OS but he told me it was nothing-it takes up to a year to heal completely and released me back to my PCP.

The pain is so bad, I'm back on crutches.  Somethings not right and my PCP doesn't know why I'm in pain also.

Do you have any ideas why I'm still in pain when most of my friends and people I know that have had ON and a THR and they were walking without pain and unassisted at 2 mos or less.
