hypoglycemia ??

by junie37, Oct 24, 2007 12:45PM
My husband now 70, has for years experienced  what would seem to be hypoglycemia. He is large boned, 6'4" & weighs 229. He has 3 brothers who are all Diabetic.  He seems to become shakey about 3 hrs after eating a good meal.  This not extremely low but have read that the level varies with the individual.
Is there some other condition that would mimic Hypoglycemia or a high need for Protein?
                                                              Thanks,
                                                                        Junie

yes to the question can hypoglycemis do this to him yes, so when this happen he needs to eat snacks of protein and complex carbs. What is his blood sugars at this time, 2-3 hrs after a meal. High carb meals can cause this also. So taking white flour and white rice and potatoes and junk food and sweets away can help this, more grains and highr fiber help also. it is a condition u might take to his dr about. If he is becoming shakey u need to take his blood sugar to see how low it is. if it is 80 and below a sugay soda 2 oz at a time and re check the blood. never leave him to shake like this for anytime, act on it fast. but see the dr for some testing.
