Chronic sinusitis

by jumbo648, Oct 24, 2007 01:14PM
My daughter suffers from chronic sinusitis. She is constantly congested and miserable and her doctor continues to prescibe antibotics. The meds help, but after a few weeks the congestion returns. I remember suffering the same condition as a child but remember going to an allergist who had a nasal aspirator( suction device) that cleared my congestion in a second! I looked on EBAY and found the same aspirator. Is this a safe way to relieve the problem?

It may be safe, but you should ask her doctor about its safety before using it.  Please read our sinusitis information at http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/diseases/allergy/about/conditions/sinusitis.aspx to learn more about the nasal wash technique.  Most cases of chronic sinusitis are not infectious.  She may have allergic sinusitis, maybe even allergic fungal sinusitis.  Antibiotics would not help with either of these.

You should have your daughter seen by an ENT specialist or an allergist.
