tingling and numbness

by kmarieee, Oct 24, 2007 08:05PM
Hi everyone. I have experienced these symptoms since I have been a solphmore in high school.  My legs would constantly fall asleep multiple times a day.  I would have to sit and wait a couple minutes, bc the pins and needs were unbarable.  Then when I was a senior I began experiencing the numbness also coupled with tingliness in my arms and legs along with severe fatigue. My pinky fell asleep for 5 days.  Although I could still feel it, it felt like I had taken an anestetic.  I began a process of multiple tests.  My blood work all came back okay; yet, my b12 level was a little low.  The doctors wanted to rule out MS.  I had an MRI of my brain and cervical spine which were negative.  Although me doctor made sure to tell me, that early MS symptoms can accur three years prior to the onset of lesions on an MRI.  My reflexes were brisk which I found out was a bad thing? Also, my EMG came back negative.  I am now a solphmore in college. I constantly wake up with numb limbs.  Yet, after waking them up, they turn to pins and needles and then I fall back asleep.  I get numbess and tingliness in my arms, legs, fingers throughout the day.  This summer the tip of my big toe went numb for a week straight. I could feel it, yet, it again felt like I had put novacane on it.  I described it as feeling like frostbite; yet, it wasn't cold to touch.  Recently I have been waking up feeling like my mouth can't move, and noticing my lips are numb and then tingling.  I am happy that I am not alone in this! Although, I take my studies very seriously, I dont feel asthough I am stressed at this point in my life.  I am nineteen, and I should be in the prime of my life.  This condition is the only thing making me stressed! Please write back. Your responses are to hear!

Hi, I hope you find some answers soon.  I have had a multiple of symptoms for years.  I just wanted to encourage you to stay positive and focus on what you can do.  Have you been checked for circulatory problems?  I have had issues with numbness and tingling as well.  I find that exercising helps.  I do a series of stationary movements lying in the morning to get my body going.  I start with my toes and go up.  I wiggle and massage each one and then stand up and keep working up.  I don't know if this will help you, but I have done this for a while.  The numbness in my toes doesn't totally go away, but the firey pins and needles feeling don't happen as often.  I also find that how I sleep makes a difference too.   Whatever the answer is to the symptoms that you have, focus on the positive of what you can do. Don't stress out about what you don't know.  Attitude does matter. Don't over think your problems.  Enjoy your college years and stay active as much as possible.
Take care, Aggie
