How long before receiving news

by Gerri741, Oct 25, 2007 11:42AM
I had my biopsy one week ago and still have not heard back from my doctor.  There were microcalcifications on my mammogram and were classified as indeterminate.  I called my doctor yesterday and they said they did not have the pathology report back yet.  I really didn't think I would have to wait this long.  Is this normal to take this long?  This is making me a nervous wreck.  Has anoyone else had to wait this long?

Gerri.... I had to wait that long before and I also work at a doc's office and I know that sometimes it takes that long for the report to come through.  I always look at it as no news is good news. There is always alot of paperwork, etc and sometimes reports just don't make it back to requesting doc as fast as we would like. Keep calling your doc and let them know you are anxious for results. Good Luck and remember, 99% of the things we worry about never happen.

Thank you and you were right.  I went to the doctor on Friday and it wasn't cancer.  My doctor said the pathologist was very thorough but she did talk to her on Friday morning and was told no cancer but she will get the written report on Monday and read it to me over the phone.  It seemed like an eternity when I was in her office waiting for her to come in but when she did she was smiling and said no cancer.  I should go back for annual mammograms and to come to see her in six months but she said I had  nothing to worry about.  Thank you for your reply.

Hi,
The biopsy report usually takes 4 to 5 days to be ready and sometime could be stretched by a day or two. Pathologist do take their own time in reading the slide has it requires a double confirmation in reporting the cancer cells presence in the sample.
