Incision Healing after Abdominal Hysterectomy

by Buckeyegal, Sep 24, 2006 12:00AM
A little over a week ago I had an abdominal hysterectomy.  I had my staples removed 4 days ago and steri-strips applied at the doctors office.  The incision over all is healing well but there is about a 2 inch section that is swollen and red.  I spoke with the doctors office and they said to not worry keep cleansing it and apply 1/2 strengh peroxide.

My question is this this part of the incision the top is swollen and off set from the bottom of the incision.  Is this just swelling or will it stay this way when it heals?  I don't want the doctor to think I am paranoid or vain but this would really be nasty if it heals this way.

I had my hyster almost 6 wks ago, thankfully i never had incision issues but many of the ladies on the message board hysterhangout have. Some lasies had their incision open up 2 inches or more. So you can try that site if you want, might help to hear others haev been there too. Being so new post-op your incision is stil swollen and looks weird too. I know i checked mine daily and though OMG is it ever going to look ok.

Im sure that it will definently heal "normally," I have had large scars before that required staples, and I had the same problem.  They healed completely normal.  After surgery the skin is very sensitive and becomes swollen.  (some spots more than others) DONT WORRY that is totally normal, and the swelling will go down when the wound begins to heal.  But dont ever be afraid to ask your doctor anything, who cares what he will say or think about you... this is your body and you need to make sure you are comfortable with everything that has been done, and comfortable with the recovery.  So if you have questions dont ever be afraid to ask your doctor. Good Luck. I hope you feel better soon!!!

i had a full hysterctomy 5 days ago on the 3rd day one of my staples fell out and the incision has stayed open. my left hip is completely bruised. and i am in so much pain! will my incision heal correctly? its not even a straight cut. it took an extra hour for the procedure because i had so much scar tissue from previous surgeries. i feel horrible! will i be normal soon? asked doc to steristrip where staple fell out he left it till 2 days later. its swelled and infected! went to er and theres nothing they could do. i dont get it and im not happy!

I had my hysterectomy on the 11th of June. I now am having to have home health come see me once a day to pack a 6 cm tunnel I have that is infected. All along I was concerned the doctor kept saying everything looks healthy no infection. Well it wasn't any surprise to me when my nurse came to my home and told me it was infected and called in antibiotics. I am so afraid this thing will never heal. Now I have another spot close to the tunnel that looks like it's going to burst at any moment. If anyone has advise please help.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy two days ago and came home after one night in the hospital. Shouldn't I have been given an antibiotic to come home with?
