neurofibroma in orbit of eye

by JaniceE, Oct 25, 2007 12:47PM
Ten years ago had surgery to remove a mixoid neurofibroma in the orbit of right eye. It immediately recurred, and the only suggestion was another surgery, which I couldn't do financially. Then, within perhaps a year, a second began developing in location suggesting it was response to irritation from the earlier surgery. This makes more surgery seem even less desirable, but it has grown to the point that something must be done. Has any work been done on other, non-surgical treatment?

I have heard of Gamma Knife surgery for similar type tumors but I have no knowledge if it could be useful at all in your case.   Orbital tumors are not my area of expertise.  I can recommend several excellent ophthalmologists at major teaching hospitals that specialize in tumors like this.

Thank you for your answer to my concern. You mentioned other opthalmologists at major teaching hospitals with expertise in orbital tumors. I would appreciate receiving their names and locations.
