I'm not familiar with those results, are they from an anti-body test?  My Doctor has just ordered one of those for me.  I’m starting to get real answers after 4 years of under treatment.

The thyroid is what regulates pretty much everything, because it regulates your metabolism.  Your thyroid can swell when it becomes irritated from not responding to the hormones your brain is sending it.  You probably need a hormone supplement (like the Thyroxin you mentioned) everyday.

The chances of acquiring this increase with age.  It’s good that your Doctor wants you to see a specialist, an Endocrinologist, he/she shows that he/she wants you to get the specialized care you need.  I wouldn't get stressed out, but the sooner you see one the sooner you will get what your body needs to work right.

If you want to learn more I would look at Endocrinology websites, there are a bunch out there.

I went onto the Endocrinology web sites you suggested one page I found to be very interesting as I said I have had an under active thyroid for 15 years  found out after tests in july I  have high cholesterol as well  web page states  that if you have a under active thyroid as well as high cholesterol   the cholesterol will alter the thyroid results  making them higher the doctor did not pick up on this but gave me cholesterol lowering tabs (statins) my cholesterol is now low it was only going back for a new prescription that he noticed on my test results from July that my thyroid was high said I needed to see a specialist which will be next  wednesday  so I thought I would be one step ahead so went into the clinic yesterday and had a new thyroid test done get results before going in to see the specialist so with lowering my cholesterol levels thyroid reading should be right lets hope
Bye the way I am English but live in Portugal just been home for a visit feeling bit home sick at the moment
Thanks again
