immune to oral herpes 1 in the genital area when previous history of cold sores exist?

by SatinRed, Oct 25, 2007 02:14PM
I've read the MDs response in this forum about herpes 1 being less risky in infecting the  partner by oral to the genital contact if the pereson receiving the oral stimulation has had previous cold sores; meaning a person who is receiving oral stimulation can be immune in getting herpes 1 in their genital area when the person giving oral has an existing cold core in their mouth, and if the person has never had a cold sore b4, he/she can contract herpes 1 in their genital area when they are receiving oral sex with someone who has an existing cold sore.
i just wanted to see everyone elses thoughts and knowledge about this... and if it's true?

Yes it's true. Having a pre- existing hsv1 oral infection yourself, means it's not likely you will contract hsv1 genitally thru oral sex later on. It's still a good idea to err on the side of caution and if your partner has an obvious cold sore - don't let them go down on you. This is because of herpes and also because it's an open portal into the body and you don't want normal genital flora potentially getting in there.  From the moment you are infected with either hsv1 or hsv2, your body starts developing protective antibodies to help keep you from contracting the same virus on other body parts later on.

Ive always gotten cold sores on my lips before and I think I just had cold sores on my nose. I went down on my parter and he also went down on me. Now I am worried that it could have spread. My nose didnt touch him or me, but we did kiss. If so when would it show, and does it always return on your genitals once it gets down there. If its HSV 1 does it always come back down below? I am so worried....please help!

It would come back in the location of the infection.  If you are infected genitally, that's where it will recur.  If you are infected orally, that's where it will recur.
