Frequent urnination/low rt. back pain

by ginnymarie, Oct 26, 2007 09:35AM
Hi,  I come out of desperation.  I am a 58 yr female.  For the past 4 years I've had low back ache (rt. side).  When I pee it  goes away.  An hour later it comes back.  I feel like I am being squeezed around my waist.  I pee again and it goes away.  I generally can sleep 6 plus hrs. at nite without getting up.  I have had many tests for UTI. Always negative.  I have had ultra sound, neg.  I had CT scan negative.  I had a test where they put a dye in and looked at my kindeys.  UROgram Said I had a low lying rt. kidney with a double renal pelvis.   Said there was fullness in the rt. renal pelvis of uncertain significance  NO evidence of hydroureter.  Ther is mild brush border of the reanl pailla, more prominant in the rt. kidney, and  may be a normal findling.  This can also be seen in s ponge kidney.  Ureters were unremarable.  I had a test where they put dye in bladder and watched to see if it was backing up.  negative .  I had my gallbldder ultrsound.  Said it was small.  I have been to 4 doctors. 2 who are urologists.  Last one asked me if I felt I could "just live with it"?    Well yes I can but there must be a reason for this occuring.  Oh also I had blood tests for allergies hoping we'd find something which was irritating the bladder/kidney.  My mother dies of bladder cancer so of course I'm a little worried.  If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

Hi there, it sure sounds like you have been through the tests and I understand how hard it is.  I have been going through some kidney bladder problems and they are still undetermined as of yet.  However, I have found that caffeine aggravates my problems and I have to push more water than most to keep things flushed.  I am like you and have the pain mostly on the right side.  I don't know if you are on any kind of pain management but that can affect things as well.  I was told it cannot but have found that with being Fentanyl for a job injury that this aggravates the kidnedy/bladder thing as well.  From my research I have found that that pain mgt. can relax the bladder enough that it will not empty properly.  Right now if I don't stay on antibiotics I will get a bladder and kidney infection very rapidly.  Have you had that problem as well?  I have wondered if sweetners could be an aggravator.  Good luck and take care.

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly.  I do not have kidney or bladder infection.  Today I visited a friend of mine who is a general practictioner who is more on the alternative side.  He seems to think my ureter is spasming.   Kind of like irritible bowel syndrom, you can have irritible bladder and irritible ureter.  We looked it up and ureter colic happens when you have stones, but you can have it when you don't have stones.  He suggested I try magnesium which is a muscle relaxer, and perfusia which is l'arginine (slow release) to calm everything down.  He prescribes it for people who have high blood pressure.    We also looked at some homepathic remedies.  He also gave me a prescription for a pill which is like Detrol. I have taken  Detrol but it didn't help at all and only gave me a dry mouth and a headache.   So I will try the magnesium and Perfusia.    Sorry to hear about your job injury.  I hope you can get off the p ain meds.  As we all know everything we take even if it helps our problem has a side effect..  I just found this site today and I am anxious to read the posts.  I will  let you know in about a week or so if I find any relief.  I am tired of being a slave to the bathroom!
You take care of yourself!
