Either way, swallow it or cough it out.  Unless this blood loss continues for weeks it will be inconsequential and require no special dietary measures.  However, if it continues that long you should see your doctor or consult with an ENT specialist. Spinach, red meat, liver and dark green vegetables, such as spinach, are good sources of iron.

Hello...I wonder if your airways are just irritated...do you feel raw as well? I know that I have had infections where I have had streaking of blood in my mucous. As far as swallowing the mucous, I say spit it out in a Kleenex,  personally that is what I do. Also, how much blood are we talking about...streaks, pure blood...etc? Pure blood warrants a conversation with a doctor, something else could be going on besides a cold but your doctor would be the best judge of that. If it is just a little bit, then I wouldn't worry about replacing it. Again, your doc would know best...you would have to lose alot of blood before docs start to worry about transfusions.  I hope that you feel better soon, sunny :)
