Warts and Skin Growths

by SkinQuestion, Oct 26, 2007 01:32PM
Dear Doctor, around February of this year I noticed a growth in my genital region that looked to be a wart however seemed to have hair coming from the growth. It was a little over half way up in my pubic region. I thought nothing of it but my GP believes it to be a common or general type wart and not HPV.

Here is a picture for your observation.

I am worried that 1) I may have HPV and 2) that I may have infected my girlfriend.
I am currently treating the wart or growth myself with a salicylic acid cream exfoliator 2% and copper peptide cream in the evening, and it does seem to be breaking up.

It resembles the cauliflower appearance yet it did seem to have hairs coming from it. So I am confused. I cant see my derm until December and to complicate matters further I have noticed smaller clustered bumps in my pubic and am worried that they may be related or HPV warts. They also may be inflamed or ingrown hairs.

Here is another picture for your observation.

Thank you in advance, any help would be appreciated. Thank you for the valuable service you provide.

Yes, those look like HPV warts.  Your girlfriend should have a GYN exam with a Pap smear, as a routine check.  Just because you saw the warts recently doesn't mean you just got them recently.  You might have been exposed to them years ago.  Basically, what you need to do is have them treated as soon as you can arrange it.  Once they're gone, you can get on with your life, sexual and otherwise.  Your girlfriend should have regular Pap smears, but then women should have those regularly anyway.

Take care.

Sorry for the picture size, I tried to edit my question but cant. I would have made the pics smaller.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

A few more questions if you dont mind.

1) The smaller growths also resemble HPV? The same strain as the cauliflower growth?

2) The area of the larger more defined cauliflower looking lesion or growth was the same location where I had caused a cut when shaving my pubic region... So I'm wondering if thats what made me susceptible because the growth was fully formed in the location of the shaving cut about one month after. I also had sex with my girlfriend the same night of shaving my pubic area with the cut.

3) I want to request my derm to surgically remove the larger growth to see (biospy) what it is exactly? Is this an exericse in futility?

4) Is it possible the smaller growths are just ingrown hairs and not HPV and the cauliflower growth is a more common or general wart transferred by shaving.

Sorry for all the extra questions.

Thanks Again!
