Hypothyroid + low cortisol = ??

by jenian, Oct 26, 2007 02:28PM
I just got cortisol levels back today and I am at a 4.  My thyroid is still within normal limits, but has always been very low and levels fluctuated.  I have been tired all of my life: As a kid, as a teenager, a twenty something, a thirty something, and now almost forty.  I have always needed more sleep than any other person I know and my low energy has reached an all time high.  It is ruining my life and the life of my family and my marriage.  I have nearly given up hope that there is an answer.  Could this really have effected me this long and no one discover it until now?  What is the next step?  If anyone has any comment or information it would be greatly appreciated.

I should add that when the doctor tried putting me on hormone replacement (Levothroid) my thyroid got worse and the numbers actually dropped.

There is a wesite dealing with the Adrenal/Thyroid Connection.

My Dr. refused to read it when printed out.  She refused to address the subject, but I for one, think it makes sense.  If a person has high stress levels, the adrenal system can fatigue and some of the symptoms mimic thyroid abnormalities (according to what I have read).

Anyone else heard of this?

yes this is very very correct.the adrenal gland is usually the first affected.
go to a health food shop and buy natural adrenoplex, around $50
,it will take a few mths to see results as everything natural does.
Also go on natural kelp tablets and spiralina tablets for your
thyroid. Cysts may need needle aspiration if there is one on your
thyroid gland.Get your estrogen and progesterone checked BUT
get a referal to a endocrinologist and a hormone specialist or
a good naturopath. You need a ultrasound on your thyroid gland too.
The specialists are the go .The gp doesnt help.Change your gp too
,she doesnt sound caring enough. paulinexx

Just read your regarding ultrasound on your thyroid gland. I'm also suffering from what I believe to be a thyroid problem. I have had my thyroid levels tested 4 times in the last year and everything comes back normal. I have had a lump in my throat that has grown from a pea size and is now nickel size. The doc. is sending me to the ear, nose and throat specialist. I'm wondering if the thyroid test can be a false/negative. Everything I read and all of my symtoms keep bringing me back to the thyroid. Any advice?
