is this depressive behaviour?

by bona55, Oct 26, 2007 07:18PM
My husband has just come out of a Psychiatric Hospital due to severe depression and paranoia.  He became ill 7 weeks ago and has been in there for six weeks.  He was on paroxatine for 10 years after becomming very depressive and was agressive to me.  It seemed to stop working and he was taken off it and put on Escitalopram and Olanzapine as well as diazepam.  I have been supporting him during this period and its been tough because of financial issues as well.  However now hes been out for 4 days hes so rude to me, not to anyone else.  He gives orders and does not ask.  If i try to encourage him to do anything or invite him to join us (like the nurses told me to) he snaps that i dont understand and that i dont care.  If anyone else says it to him he will listen and agree and be very pleasant.  He says he blames me for his depression but looking back i have lived with it for 18 years.  He was not like this on paroxetine.  When he was low he might be snappy and rude but it would pass and there was not this marked difference in his behaviour to others.  The nurses who visit him say its not his depression because its only against me.  I dont know what to do as i feel as if ive been through so much recently with him including fear he would commit suicide and I cant bear this hate against me.  Is there any hope?  We have two young children who he loves but i feel so down with it all and cant distance myself from the pain.
