iliotibiol tract question

l would like to know if there are openings in the iliotibiol band 2 inches long mid thigh  and top of thigh from surgery that l had{ internal rod in femur which was for broken femur}.is this normal ,would they heal on there own or should they have been sewn up. it has been 1 year since opp and l can feel with my finger openings in tract where they put the screws in,the botom screws have been removed and, l asked the surgen if he repaired the opening and he would not give me a straight answer.
