UTI

by Kisha32, Oct 27, 2007 09:02AM
I had the Mirena implanted about a year ago.  Since then when it is time for my menstrual cycle when I urinate my pee stinks.  It is quite embarassing because it is such a strong odor.  I do not a discharge, my vagina doesn't have an odor, nor do I have an odor during sexual intercourse.  I mentioned it to my doctor during my yearly checkup but she says my tests came back normal and if I can live with it not to worrry.  But when I use it at someones home or if someone comes in the restroom after me, it is quite embarrassing.  My five year old even told me it stinks when she comes in the restroom after me.  Also, since my boyfriend and I have become sexual active he has been suffering from urinary tract infections.  The first two times is because he was poked by the IUD, which my doctor had to replace.  After that, a physician told him that he and his wife had complications with the Mirena and she had it removed.  So we thought it might be complications from the Mirena that were causing the urinary tract infections (even though he hasn't been poked anymore).  He is now suffering from a 4th urinary tract infection within the past year.  A different physician reviewed his test results which turned out negative, but she wanted to see what the results were from a culture that had been taken before.  To our amazement she found E. coli. What could this be from?  We do not practive anal sex.  Nor do we have multiple partners.  Could this be what is causing the smell when I urinate?  What do you suggest?

Honestly, I'm not sure what could be causing the troubles. But for anyone suffering from frequent UTI's (my aunt does and no one knows why), drinking cranberry juice everyday or taking cranberry pills will help. I'd say give it a shot and see what happens. If the problems persist, then you may have to find a new form of birth control.
