chronic burning type pain in feet

by Georgey9, Oct 27, 2007 09:52PM
I HAVE JUST HAD 2 MONTHS AGO AN L5/S1 LUMBAR FUSION AND LAMINECTOMY TO REMEDY BURNING PAIN IN MY FEET THAT I HAVE HAD ONGOING FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. MY SURGEON SUGGESTED THIS OPERATION BECAUSE HIS THOUGHTS WERE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS BEING CAUSED BY DISC DEGENERATION AND STENOSIS.BY PERFORMING THIS OPERATION I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS AN 80% LIKLIEHOOD OF PERMANENT PAIN RELIEF.I WAS TOLD AFTER THE OPERATION THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO COMPLICATIONS.THE SURGEON STATED THAT I WOULD HAVE RELIEF WITHIN A MATTER OF WEEKS BUT 2 MONTHS LATER MY NERVE PAIN HAS INTENSIFIED WITH NO SOLUTION IN SIGHT.WHAT DO I DO NOW OR WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE.

Hi Georgey,

I'm not going to compare sob stories, but use this as an example. I went in to have a brain tumor removed, I woke from anaesthesia with the left side of my face numb, no feeling, and three years later, it's still like that and actually I have developed another disorder from it. And when I came out everything was great successful, grand. Yeah I'm on anticonvulsants 3 years later for facial pain, and a numb face, but I'm still alive, I guess that's the definition of successful? We have it wrong!! : ) All joking aside....  Have you had any relief at all from it? Did you have initial relief, and it intensified? Or no difference only worse? I hate to even say it like this, but that is the risk of surgery WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU, is that 20% has potential to be severe. There was a guy in my support group, who had facial pain, once in a while, and he went in to have it fixed and they promised him all pain relief, and he came out, and he will have 24/7 constant, crippling pain. You can try different drs., strong drugs, which I'm still on, they might want you to undergo something else, I woud highly advise against it. Chronic pain, is my life now, it has changed it, completely devastating actually. I'm only 22, I was 19 when this started happening. They can ease the pain, but probably will never go away completely, at least with mine. Don't give up all hope, keep looking seek different drs., it's going to be very frustrating, and at times infuriating. Get your medical records so you have a copy. Let me know how you're doing, this is something I can personally relate to, so if you need any advise I've already been through it. It took me 6 drs. and 3 years, and hardly any support to diagnose me, tell me we can't do much, all while being in pain. Hope to talk with you soon, hang in there!
