pregnant with neurological symptons and no answers

by doc72, Oct 28, 2007 12:52AM
Hi guys I am in a bit of a ditz at the moment and have posted my stories on other sites trying to get some advice. Anyway my story is early this year I remember my toe moving by itself and I used to get a burning under my buttock. Then in April after easter I ate some of the kids choccie and soon afterwards my heart raced and wouldn't stop so exhausted I went to bed, it raced for hours when I woke up it was fine but I had a dull ache across my forehead which lasted 2 weeks. This stopped then I had 4 weeks of chronic face pain, a dull 24/7 pain under eyebrows, nose, cheeks, jaw nothing drs give me stopped pain, during this I also had a rotton cough which left me up most nights for about 2 weeks coughing so hard it bought tears to my eyes. Drs give me sinutab, sinus infection, neurontin, panadene forty, and other meds nothing worked. Pain just stopped, when I looked up neuralgia pain on net I stumbled across ms then I realised I have tingling in my hands, feet, groin. My face has numbish touch to it like I have been given shot of novocane, I still have it and it's end of Oct, I have tingling that comes and goes in groin still, sometimes 1 side, or other side, or both. Tingling in feet mainly toes remains very mildy, but there still, under feet feel numbish and to walk on grass feels very odd underneath, I went through 2 weeks of twitching where when I sat on recliner with feet out leg would move, finger would lift up, shoulder would flex back, when I went to bed I would twitch all over and have little blips under skin. Thats all stopped. I get burning in ankles and under feet. My arms used to have weird sensation up them, particulary when I would towel dry, that is gone. My legs have the weird sensation up them still especially when I towel dry or shave. Yes I had bloods done diabetes, b12, thryroid, etc all neg. Mri of brain and spine, clear. I am only 6 weeks pregnant and had these symptons before falling pregnant. My gp said it was stess,2nd gp said its post viral related, neurolgist said I do not have ms and that she works with people with ms and what I am experiencing is not ms related. I must be either dumb or dumber because thats not what I have read on the net, so I am now trying my luck with all you guys. The heat does not bother me and today its about 35 degrees outside, its summer here, although I am in the airconditioning, I am never tired and full of beans and always have been. Last month also I have been experiencing  being lightheaded and moreso if I turn head quickly or reach up to the clothesline. I have another appointment on the 27th nov with another neurologist. Can anyone shed any light as to what may be wrong. Do many of you out there been diagnosed with ms and had a clean mri the 1st time? I am probably in limbo now anyway being pregnant I don't know if any tests can be done on me. Does anyone know if I can get a spinal (whatever that test is called) whilst pregnant, and can I get the evolked p thing  (whatever its also called).  With ms does fatigue and heat come strainght away or does it rare its ugly head later. Hot showers don't bother me or baths either. I have no weaknesses.
Thanks for listening again to me getting my sob story of my chest. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do drs also respond. Hoping to hear from you all soon.
Kind regards, Melissa

Did they test you for lyme? The first test can give you a false negative. Do you watch a show called,'Mystery Diagnosis"? If not, you should. You will learn alot of things to look for. Your symtoms sound just like a young girl that was on the show. After THREE!! years they finally figured out what it was. Lyme. She tested negative for it twice. Now that she got a proper dx, she has been doing very well.

I don't think so can you get it in Australia? I actually spoke to my original neurologist last night, and said that my symptons such as numbnes feet and tingling etc remained. She said once again that she doesn't think its ms and that she don't know whats wrong. She said a clean mri of spine and brain was excellent and that people with clean mri's and ms only come about like 1 in 100 000.
It's just that on this site, quite a few seem to have clean mri's and then later on have lesions and told they have ms. She also said she gets lots of people in with unexplained symptons similar to mine and clean mri's and they don't have ms. I am just finding it really bothersome, and no one seems to believe me. But yes thank you I am getting 2nd opinion of neurologist who specialized in ms for last 20 years next month and I will certainly ask him about lyme?

Thanks again, Melissa..............

Sounds ALOT like me.  Burning feet, tingling hands, twitching.  I do have problems with heat though.  As soon as I get in the sun, or in hot shower, I get a feeling like prickling needles up my arms and legs.  MRI of spinal cord and brain w/contrast clean except one lesion on corpus callosum, which my neuro said was insignificant, expecially since I get migraines.  I've had all testing you have had done and more  (spinal, evoked potentials)- still negative.  The one thing I did get at my new neuro is a "chronic fatigue panel" done.  Labwork revealed an active infection of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and HSV-1 (cold sore virus) although I have never had a cold sore.  He is treating me with antivirals, neurontin, cymbalta and pamelor.  I have had this since Aug. 06 and some days are better than others.  I even felt completely better for a few months and it came back again, starting with twitching everywhere.  People think I'm nuts too.  It's real, and I feel your pain.  Keep us updated.  PS.....make sure you get tested for CMV - it is usually harmless to adults - but it can cause hearing problems in a fetus.  Take care and remember to update us.
