Sinus Infections/Pegasys?

by Fmulder, Oct 28, 2007 04:11AM
My doctor wants to treat me (with pegasys/reba) for my Hep C, Stage 2, Geno 1a, I heard the treatments can make you more  prone to infections?, I get very serious sinus infections and have nasal polyps that exasperate the situation,  I was sicker than hell this weekend just from my sinus infection, I was thinking  if i was doing the treatments I would probably be heading for the emergency room!,  Do these treatments make infections worse? i.e., If you catch a real bad cold while doing the treatments is your cold worse than it would have normally been?, I also have blood sugar issues that make me hypoglycemic quite often, Does this effect that?,  I guess what i'm saying is  I just don't want to feel any worse than i already do!

Yes you can get more infections --- easier...

Your total immunity system goes down - you will have problems.

But - you can handle them.

Make sure you and your doctor have contingency plans - make sure he/she is willing to treat you for side effects... As soon as they happen.

The TX can be bad for some --- but be aware some folks don't have any problems and you could be one of them.

Pay attention to your blood sugar --- pay attention to your body --- and stay on top of things.

Good luck - and welcome to the forums!

I have had chronic sinus/allergy problems for a long time.  It's so bad I've been on injectable allergy treatment for over 10 years coz the allergies often trigger sinus issues.

The weird thing is, I haven't had one sinus infection for the past 11 months, since starting TX.  I also have cut way back on allergy injections, from once or twice a month to once every 6 weeks to 2 months coz I don't get allergy SX anymore.

I did have a couple of whopper ear infections during the first couple of months but I'm prone to them as I took out half my ear drum a decade or so ago and I was using ear plugs coz I couldn't sleep.

I now wonder if the sinus/allergy stuff wasn't a result of the hep-C?

Who knows.

But this is the first time in several decades I haven't had to be on regular antibiotics for sinus infections.

i have heard quite the opposite, that you get less colds & infections while on tx. something about the interferon boosting your immune sys. maybe someone can clarify this?

The Sting

Gezzz that was a great movie, an all star cast the only thing different between now and then is today it’s called pay for click, the more clicks the more pay you receive, interesting concept.
