liver nodules

by jaxa270, Oct 28, 2007 12:38PM
My mum is 69 and has just had an ultrasound which revealed nodules on the liver. She has been feeling unwell on and off since easter. She has severe pain in the upper right hand quadrant, with nausea and pain when she eats anything.  She has lost alot of weight recently, but as she feels so ill when she eats she has limited her food intake. She has been treated for a urinary tract infection in the last month, which in itself has been painful. Having gone back to the doctor and yet another set of bloods done which revealed the problem with the liver function. They thought she may have had gall stones, which is when the nodules were discovered. We are waiting for a ct scan, but are desperately  worried about her, and have nightmare-ish thoughts going through our minds.

As far as 'nodules," alot of people have cysts on liver and kidney too and it doesn't always mean its something bad - some are born with these. My scans showed a couple cysts on my kidneys and  one of 2 on my liver. The docs don't seem concerned in my case and I know at times these things can mean something serious, but not always so.

My friend just went thru what sounds exactly like what your mother is going thru and it did wind up being gallbladder and she had it removed and she is fine. She worried herself sick for nothing, but the pain was really hard to deal with so who wouldn't worry especially since they didn't diagnose her right away.

Good luck.
