Hypertention

My brother inlaw, 24 yoa, has exercised induced hypertention. His heart has stopped 3x in the past year, he has high cholesteral, smokes, social drinker, no family hx of heart dx. No other past medical history. Aside from the obviouse (life style changes), what patho physiology should we be looking at.

my mother is 61 years old ,she recently had a minor heart attack since this she has been told she has hypertention, ans she suffers every day with pulpatation in her chest these are becoming really bad her bp is 197 over 94 this has come down a little but then shoots up again ,she also dibetic her sugar levels are between 15 and 14 what can i do to make her see sense she dosent do as she is told , and she wont listen to me .she needs a shock reality checj to bring her back to normality about her illnesses .please can you advise me what i can say or do. i dont quite understand what hypertention is .
