8 year old - seperation issues

by hb2me, Oct 28, 2007 08:44PM
My 8 year old has always been attached to me and was extremely clingly from the age of 2 through 5 but then it seemed to go away. About 3 months ago he started to have thoughts of me dying as he was going to sleep. Now, everytime I have to go out at night he calles me 10 times to make sure I'm ok. My wife had spinal surgery and was in the hospital for 2 days and it didn't faze him however, if I came home from the hospital 10 minutes later then I say he's waiting by the window in tears or calling me in the car. On monday's  I play raquetball at 7:30 at night he wants me to call him when I get there  and when I get out. Just like other parents here he's a gifted athlete who until 2 years ago would not play on a team now, plays basketball. I have tried to talk to him about this but he always says "dad you know". My health is great and our family life is fine. I am broken up by his actions and feelings and want him to enjoy his childhood. I need your advice. Thank you
