Lump in breast

by alaw37, Oct 29, 2007 08:14AM
I have a lump in my left breast.  It is located at the 12 o clock position and is approximately 2cm in measurement.  It is at the top of the breast and is shaped oddly.  It is hard and does not move.  It is not smooth.  I also have on the same breast a pink spot - sort of like a pimple - only flat on the lateral side of the breast.  No nipple discharge or rashes or skin changes.  I have felt this lump for sometime now and the pink bump has been there for over a year.  I am 37 years old, had ababy 16 months ago.  I did not breastfeed this child due to hx. of breast reduction 6 years ago and not enough milk production.  My question - is this something I should be concerned about?  I have never had a mammogram and have no hx. of breast cancer except for a 2nd cousin.   But I have a very strong family hx. of cancer in general - all on my dad's side (12 of his aunts/unlces have died with cancer- all siblings) and my 32 year old brother is currently undergoing treatment for primary brain cancer(anaplastic astrocytoma).  This lump does not change with monthly cycle or hormone changes.  It is not painful and I don;t feel any lymph nodesin the axillary region.   Should I be concerned?  Could it be related to breast surgery? I  have very little scarring.  Should I have a mammogram based on symptoms and family hx.?  Any input is greatly appreciated.
