Understand my 4 yr old

by Pearl87, Oct 29, 2007 11:15AM
Doc. & parents,
I'm a single parent to a 4 year old single pre-schooler who has me very concerned with his naughty behavior.  My son, Andrew, is a very active child like any other, but I am very concerned about something that has been occurring lately, ever since I moved back in with my mother and he started the pre kindergarten he has been behavior horribly to the point that I am lost and i am considering taking him to a child psychologist.  Andrew is doing things that I believe most kids are doing in their 2's, like throwing whatever he can find in sight, bitting everyone, tantrums in where he hits himself and screams his lungs out, and he ignores me and everyone around him when spoken to. According to his teacher, it's a discipline problem being that I am the strict one and his grandmother (being my mom) spoils him, so he acts up to get negative/positive attention. He isn't a child lacking love and attention because, me and my family play and teach him and give him more than enough attention. I am lost and I need advice from other parents as well as the doctor before I take crucial decisions as to taking him to a child psychologist. Please, HELP!

I think the teacher may be right in what she says i found when my children were little and i had to move in with my mam for a while the conflicting views of mine and my mams discipline caused them to become out of control. My daughter in particular who was then three would not listen to anything i said and for this reason i left my mothers house. It was a nightmare at the beginning and my daughters tantrums were monumental to say the least, i'm not suggesting that you move out but i think you and your mam need to sit down and set some ground rules on discipline for your son and stick to them. conflicting discipline is confusing to the child and his behaviour is the result of his confusion
