my 46 yr. old daughter has recently been hospitalized with this. what are survival percentages? she's had l reg. chemo treatment last wed. and 1 - 1/2 treatment the following sun. she's stage 4. all this includes bone cancer and lung. she's been paralized for about 2 days/2 drugs for pain. then she was off paralizer 1 hr., one day, 4 the next (including nighttime - twice a day), and sun., from 10 AM til now, over 24 hrs. pain meds reduced and the reduced chemo were given sun. she's aware but not much reaction from her.
what are her chances of survival and would a mamogram have a chance of showing this?

Dear Joandart13:  Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare form of breast cancer that generally presents as a reddened, hot, swollen breast.  There may or may not be a distinct lump and it may or may not show up on a mammogram.  Inflammatory breast cancer is considered advanced at the time of diagnosis due to the skin involvement and it is usually treated with chemotherapy, rather than surgery, first.  Like any other breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer can spread to other parts of the body and the extent of spread can impact the overall prognosis.  Without evaluation, it is not possible for us to speculate on the prognosis for your daughter.  Her doctor would be best able to have this discussion with you as it relates specifically to her situation.

You can talk to other ladies going thorough the same diagnosis at breastcancer.org. Go to community support and join the discussion board there. Some of the ladies are on meds to keep the cancer under control for long periods of time. Even years. Some of the ladies have bone, liver lung and brain cancers. Please go there for advice on test, types of chemo and other meds. I wish you and you daughter well.

You could also try ***@****, which is a forum just for ibc sufferers.

Sorry...that should have been: ibc at ibcsupport.org. Use the ampersand key instead of "at".
