Scabies or?

by joey38, Oct 29, 2007 12:39PM
I had been itching like crazy for about a month or so, and so I finally went to my general doctor three weeks ago. He noticed some small red lesions on my inner thigh and chest. He didn't test it at all. He didn't take a sample or anything. He said it was scabies and prescribed  a scabicide. I applied it that day, but I dont think it worked because I still have lesions and am itchy three weeks later. I'm going to apply the scabicide again tonight. My question is if it isn't scabies what else could it be? and should my doctor have done something to determine whether or not it is definately scabies instead of just going on his opinion?

Hi,

'Diagnosis may be confirmed by microscopy of surface scrapings, which are placed on a slide in glycerol, mineral oil or immersion in oil and covered with a coverslip.'

'Apply the scabicide medication to a clean body from the neck down to the toes. After leaving the medication on the body for the recommended time, take a bath or shower to wash off the cream or lotion.

Put on clean clothes. All clothes, bedding, and towels used by the infested person during the 3 days before treatment should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer.

A second treatment of the body with the same cream or lotion may be necessary. '

Let us know if you have also tried Ivermectin and also about what your skin specialist advises.
