Ritalin Abuse

by angrypartner, Oct 29, 2007 03:40PM
My live-in boyfriend is abusing his Ritalin prescribed by his doctor.  Every month he gets a refill around the 20th and you can be sure that he snorts it and is up all night, agitated, confrontational, muscle twitching, rambling on an on.  I walk on egg-shells until finally, about a week later, he crashes and sleeps it off and then goes back to orally ingesting his medication as prescribed.  He is an addict with a history of rehab visits and his prescribing doctor is aware of that.  I can't believe he would prescribe him Ritalin knowing his background!  Is there anything I can do other than leave him?

What kind of diagnosis does the boyfriend have, that the DR feels Ritalin will help? As Ritalin is schedule II drug, meaning it is highly controlled, It is usually used on children suffering from attention deficit disorder. Call his doctor and tell him he is snorting them. Or threaten to call his DR to let him now he is snorting his medication, and if the DR does nothing about it you are going to alert the DEA. This will scare the sht out off the DR that he will probably shut him off, or he could start taking adderall same kind of drug but cannot be as easily abused as Ritalin, You have to do something, or he may snort enough to make him hallucinate and take his anger out on you, Would he freak if you left him for your own safety?------------------------NOAH

hey my girlfriend feels the same about me sometimes, I am a ritalin user and every once in awhile i will cursh & snort about 15-20 5mg pills and I'm up all night, unfortuantly this is one of those nights. Just tell him that you love him and care about his safety and tell him that stuff could happen if he doesnt be careful. My girl said that to me and I stopped using as much, when I do use I will crash at a friends house because she hates when I'm like this
