what do I do now?

I just got back from the Dr and I am beyond frustrated! The CT came back and said "There is a rounded low attenuation measuring 0.8cm seen in the lateral aspect of the right mid pole kidney most likely due to the renal cyst. Recommend ultrasound for further evaluation....There is enhancement of both ovaries especially on the right. Raise the question of no evidence of torsion on the right also probable not on the left. Please correlate in clinical setting"..
So the gyn told me today, that I have "chronic pelvic pain" and that I'm "too young to have cancer", so he wanted to give me Lupron or a 6 month cycle of birth control pills and see him after I try that. He said that the weight loss, fatigue, constipation and pain can all be "imperically treated"...My husband and I are at a loss. What do we do from here? I feel like I'm being treated as though I'm crazy. I tried to explain that 6 months ago, I played tennis everyday and had boundless energy and no pain, not to mention a normal bathroom pattern!...he just attributed it to chronic pelvic pain and said any other Dr. would follow the same protocol.Is this true? What should I do from here on out? I am so grateful for all your help!

No One is too young to have cancer.  Get a Trans Vaginal Ultra Scan and a CA125, a good pelvic and possibly a CT, ask the question of the doctor to "rule out Ovarian Cancer", make them listen. Get a second opinion also.

Thank you so much for your reply. He refused to do the CA125, but did do the pelvic, however, he just said that I had chronic pelvic pain! My question to him was how can you consider this diagnosis when I felt fine 4-5 months ago, and now I feel progressively worse as each week goes by. Doesn't the word chronic denote, having had a long time?
I am frustrated beyond tears. I am 33 have a wonderful family, felt great up until then and now the Dr.s will not listen! I am very grateful for you letting me vent...did you have to deal with this? I hear it more and more from friends, it's disheartening! Take care!

If you were my daughter I would want you to be seen by a gyn/oncologist......not because it is cancer but because this is their arena of expertise.  Don't allow any doctor to pat you on the head and send you on your way......you must be pro-active.  Something is going on and you need to find out what it is......don't get discouraged and give up.  You are lucky in the fact that your husband is backing you in your search for answers.......see a gyn/oncologist.

Thank you Dian! I am going to call tomorrow am and try to get in to get my referral to a gyn/onc ...at the very least maybe she could point me in the right direction! I know I have to have an ultrasound for this thing on my kidney, but that couldn't be causing all of this, could it? I am definitely taking your advice about the gyn/onc though, quickly! I'm so grateful for your response and encouragement! Take care!

I'm 27, and I was unfortunately not too young to get cancer. I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment with a gyc/onc like Dian advised. Stay proactive in your search for answers. You are not crazy and have every right to de demanding blood tests, CT scans, and get the pelivc exam!! Good luck, and keep us posted! Deandra

I agree you should trust your gut and get a second opinion.  My CT also read that I had one cyst in my kidney and two in my liver.  I did have early stage OVCA but the cysts in the kidney and liver were not related.  I was told they were usually congenital.  It really upset me when I first read that in my report because I thought it must be related to my ovarian mass but it wasn't.   Endometriosis can cause lots of pelvic pain.  It doesn't necessarily show up on your scans either.  I had it and didn't even know I had it until after my OVCA dx and I had just turned 37 at dx.  Good luck to you.
