twitching and hyperflexia

by bill1946, Oct 29, 2007 04:50PM
I have experienced sporadic muscle twitching, legs, thighs, back and shoulders, thus fairly widespread, not severe.  Come's and go's.  Some stiffness in hands and feet but no actual cramping.  This has been going on for perhaps a month and a half.  Not long.  Also have some hyperflexia in right leg.  No associated clonus.  This leg injured years ago with resultant pressure on right hip and lower back, which may or may not contribute to hyperflexia. No change in muscle strength.  I work out regularly and have monitored my routine. Have even increased the weights and rep's slightly.  Saw neurologist who has ordered EMG.  He was able to stimulate one observable fasiculation.  His initial assessment, based on visuals and office visit and my report of symptoms, was that ALS less than 5 pecent chance. I recogonize that this is an estimate.  My concern is combination of the hyperflexia and muscle twitching.  BFS possible for fasiculations, of course, but would not explain hyperflexia.  Perhaps chronic issue with right leg, hip through knee to foot, might explain hypperflexia.  Neuro suggests that it could also be a less than normal flex response in other leg, as opposed to hyper in right leg.  I'd appreciate your thoughts. Age 61.  Thank you.
