potency issues in levoxyl

by sheila614, Nov 02, 2007 08:38AM
I have tried Synthroid and Levoxyl for my hypothyroidism.  I have Graves and have been treated with RI.  I have been on 150 mcg of Synthroid and Levoxyl but still end up hypo. I switched to 175 and did ok for a while, but I have noticed for years now that it is hard to find a dose and stick with it due to fluctuations in the potency.  When I get it refilled (same brand, same strength, etc.)  I will notice sometimes on day 4-5 of the new bottle that I am feeling a bit hyper.  My heart pounds and I can't sleep.  This will continue all month until I get another new prescription filled.  Then it goes back to normal.  My TSH will change slightly but nothing major.  All of the doctors that I have talked to about this say it is NOT the medicine, but I know it is.  It has happened too many times to be a coincidence.  Any thoughts?

Just to clarify....I have tried BOTH levoxyl and Synthroid.  I do not take them both at the same time.  I don't think I was clear on that point.
