Septated cyst

by Okeefe, Nov 04, 2007 08:34PM
Hi,
Please help me.

I have been having a persistent simple ovarian cyst, 2.7 cm in the left ovary, for 4 years now. The last US taken was in Mar 2006. My GYN wants to wait and watch. She doesn't want to see me until April 2008

I got anxious so my GP sent me for another US last week. The transabdominal US shows a SEPTATED cyst, 1.3 cm, on the right side.  My GP suggests another US in 6 weeks to see if this septated cyst will resolve. There is a trace of fluid in cul-de-sac.  I have no bleeding symptom. Once in a while I feel  intermitent dull pain

Do I have a high risk of ovarian cancer with this septated cyst? What should I do? I worry so much with this septated cyst.

Thanks for your help

A septated cyst is a little more suspicious than a simple cyst, but alone does not indicate cancer.

I would get a second opinion from another gyn or even a gyn oncologist (not because I think it is cancer, but because gyn oncs have dealt with many cysts and are in a better position to decide how to treat them).

At this point there is no need to panic, OC is very rare and cysts are very common, but it is good to follow-up.

Good luck.

Thanks Casey06. I was undecided whether I should go back to my gyn because she doesn't know about my new US result with the septated cyst OR seeking a second opinion from another specialist.  A gyn oncologist sounds like a good idea.
