What is it and how to treat it?

by Albert78, Nov 06, 2007 12:59PM
Dear Dr,

I recently noticed a red bumps on my lower abdomen (pubic region). They are scattered throughout pubic region, but not on the shaft or on the testicles. They look like regular pimples, some with  raised white heads. Non apear to have dimples inside like molluscum contagiosum. I've noticed them 2 days ago and started to use salicylic acid to treat them, but not sure if this is the right course of action. Please help. I can also send you a picture if this would help. I am sexually active and have had unprotected sex several times within last month. Thanks.

I forgot to mention - besides physical apearance they don't bother me at all.

Albert78,

I had the very same symptoms a year ago at college.  I had a gf and wasn't sleeping around, but we were very sexually active and most of the time unprotected.  The bumps were just like you described, not too large like the size of a pimple, white head look and only around and right about the pubic hair region between the shaft and waist line.  Just to add, my gf had no signs of outbreak.  I went to the campus doctor and she said it could have just been an allergic reaction to something that could have been brushed on my pants, or my hands could have tranfered it to my pubic region while using the restroom.  She said it wasn't anything like an STD.  She prescribed me with a steroid cream to clear it up and it worked.  The bumps have not returned and no long term symptoms.

I'd go see a doctor for evaluation and/or prescription (Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream)

Good luck and no worries!

Hi,

This could be folliculitis, acne, pimples, fordyce spots or genital warts.

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions and a clinical examination.

Do you have any other associated symptoms?

You should keep the area clean and maintain good personal hygiene.

Let us know about what your doctor advises and post us about any other doubts that you might have.

Regards.
