Some studies show that fewer antibodies are produced if meds are taken was soon as diagnosed with Hashi. Also, you could try giving her 100 mcg of Selinium which some say lessens the antibodies. Stiffness in the neck is a symptom... my 10 year old daughter is very sensitive abour her neck -though she does not know why. She was diagnosed Hashi 1 year ago and though her TSH moved back into the so called "normal" range before she even started taking meds, we treated her with Levoxyl anyways and basically all her symptoms subsided. She fairly consistantly feels good. I know it's difficult to tell with a child how they are really feeling--- I just have to say ...depression is one of the earliest symptoms, and they can't explain that to you-- I just knew, and now she is so much happier.
I assume if Kelsey has Hashimoto's that the antibodies are attacking the gland and that would be the cause of the thyroid being larger than normal (goiter).
I had FNA today and my neck is stiff and I have jaw pain as well. Dr. says it's referred pain from the thyroid.
A stiff neck can also be muscular or due to other illness. Does she have a fever?
I had a goiter because my thyroid function was too low, and it caused my thyroid to be irritated and swell. When they started me on hormone medicine to do what my thyroid wasn't, then the goiter went away.
no i have not been told the reason why, but my gran had the same as her so i think it might run in the family, she is not to bad with it but have found her to be moddy over the last couple of weeks, do not now a lot about hash and goitre it is all new to me and have not had alot of info of the doctor. she as got another blood test tomorrow and this will deterine if she needs medication.
If she has a goiter, there is a reason why, did her Doctor tell you anything more? I'm not a Doctor, but I don't think a goiter is ever normal.
