how to help my stroke patient who still complain of pain at the affected side?

i work in a snf as an occupational therapist. resident still complain of pain even with light touch but not consistent.have difficulty in achieving other goals secondary to pain. i was thinking maybe its "thalamic pain"? can you help me more about this condition?
