Viginal odour and discharge

by thisisstrange, Dec 10, 2006 12:00AM
I have just recently become concerned about dischrage that i have had for quite a while. I don't know how long I have had this for because I always assumed that notjing could possibly be wrong with me in my genital area because I was and still am a virgin (I dont believe in pre-marital sex). But now, age 24, I am engaged to be married in a couple of months. I noticed that my vagina smells quite bad, but I always assumed that I could do nothing about that. I casually looked it up online and am worried that I might have a yeast infection. I have constant discharge, not just around my period and my vagina smells even after a shower. However it does not itch at all. I am just worried that it will be a turn-off for my fiance who has had sex at one point (with one other girl) but has abstained voluntarily until he gets married (it's been 6 years since he has had sex). Howeer, there was one time that we fooled around and he went down on me- I was so embarressed that he couldnt continue cuz it tasted bad. I know he has gone down on other girls so I am very concerned that it is something wrong with me. I know he loves me so much, and now I feel so uncomfortable by the thought of him ever going down on me again-- he says he wants to, but I know he really doesn't so I wont let him. I really want it though- just not if he doesnt. And I want to smell "normal" when he does. Please help.

Look up bacterial vaginosis.  If it has a fishy smell that is probably what it is.  This is not an STD, it is caused by an imbalance in the vaginal bacteria.  You have to go to the doctor and get medicine for it to go away.  While its not an STD, if left intreated it can cause Pelvic Inflammatory disease which can lead to infertility.

I agree - definitely sounds like BV!

Just visit the doctor. You may be embarrassed ( I know I was first time I had to get checked down there), but for them it is such a normal thing that they do not think anything of it.

Ask for a female doctor if it helps you.

A simple visit to the doctor where you may be prescribed some sort of pessary or cream and wash that should get rid of the smell straight away.

To whome ever can help.

Recently I have been facing the same poblems. I recently got married about 5 months ago and my huaband and I have sex once or twice a month.Recently I got up enough courage as to ask why our love life is so dead and he replied it is because of the fishy/vinagar smell that is always down there.weather he is eating me out or we are having sex th smell is to strong for him to stand. Ive known about it for 2 years now, but he claims that its been there for 5 out of seven years now. Iv'e went to 2 gyno and they say its normal but if it's affecting my sex life then I don't think it's normal. It's taken a toll on our relationship and it's getting worse because he states that because of the smell he has come to find me unattractive. he says that he loves me but don't want to make love to me. I told him it's probably because our fluids combined could be the reason, because when we do have sex the smell is stronger. I have read on a herbal website that if you place viginar and salt in the bath tub and sit in it with your legs open for about 5 minutes it should eliminate the smell. I tried inserting it into my vigina with a swap and the smell went away but then I got my period the next day so I wasnt able to tell if it caused the bleeding. Please someone help me get my love life back in order.

I think if it smells that bad you must have an infection.  I would try going to a different gyn and explain your concerns.  I know that since semen is so alkaline it can make the vaginal pH increase which in some women can lead to infections.  I would go to the dr. and get it cleared up.  Then use condoms whenever you have sex.  Also, why not shower together before sex so you know you are clean.

Isn't bacterial vaginosis for people who are or have been sexually active?- I am not,and I have never been, so it can't apply to me...right?

by girl522, Dec 10, 2006 12:00AM
They have determined it is not from sexual activity.  Nuns get bacterial vaginosis.

Do you use tampons?  It is possible to forget one and this can cause the foul odor and discharge.  That'd be my first guess.
