yeast infection

by jfem4, Nov 14, 2007 04:33PM
42 yo female , started with vaginal itching on Friday...nothing too bad, just mild.By saturday, it was a little worse, and saw reddness and white patches, as well as white "cottage" cheese discharge. Was sure it was  a yeast infection. Only had it once before, 2 years ago when I was pregnant, but I remember it well! MD gave my Diflucan ( I think one dose) and gynazol-1 cream. It worked well, but I don't remember how long it took.
This time, I tried Monistat3 before calling the MD and it burned really badly...so I called her and she prescribed the Diflucan and the gynazole cream. This time she gave my a 150 mg pill to take on Sunday, Wed, and again on Saturday. I took the one pill and it got better, but not all the way, so I took the cream this am...it's still not right, but better for sure.
I haven't taken the next pill becasue I started having some upper rt quad pain. Saw my internist and he thinks it's my gallbladder.( low ejection % HIDA scan) ..but he said not to take the rest of the Diflucan, and that one dose is sufficient.

My question is : is one dose usually sufficient?

2. how long does it usually take to clear?

3. Is there something that I can take to boost things along??

I already take VSL # 3 -probiotic, and have been for about a year.

thanks for your thoughts

Yes.

2. how long does it usually take to clear?

A week or so.

3. Is there something that I can take to boost things along??

Not really.  I'd just use gentle cleansing and moisturizing lotions.

Best.
