WHAT IS COMPLEMENTARY & ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE (CAM)?
Complementary medicine is used together with conventional medicine. An example of a complementary therapy is using aromatherapy to help lessen a patient's discomfort following surgery.

Alternative medicine is used in place of conventional medicine. An example of an alternative therapy is using acupuncture instead of surgery for back pain that has been recommended by a conventional doctor.

Hawthorn Berry

by relax100, Nov 14, 2007 09:52PM
Has anyone ever had a bad experience with Hawthorn Berry?  I took 4 capsules from a brand at the Health Food Store hoping it would lower blood pressure.  I wasn't feeling right so I stopped taking it and the next day I had an irregular beat which has since gone away.  I have also had very high blood pressure for 4 days and am being evaluated by a heart doctor.

Has anyone ever experienced this with Hawthorn Berry or know if something is in it that may cause a bad reaction.

Thanks.

Be very careful with supplements, as they are not regulated by the FDA which regulates prescription medicine.  No, the FDA is not perfect, but supplements are sold without much oversight.  Unless you can find studies that Hawthorne Berry (or any other supplements) works, go easy with this product.  Read and go by the label's recommended dosage, or better yet, try just one capsule of anything new, until you see how you react to it.  High blood pressure can be caused by a variety of things and is best monitored by your physician.
