tooth extraction

by nidas, Nov 15, 2007 05:04AM
I recently took my father to the dentist because his dental bridge needed to be resized to fit his shrinking gums...The dentist took xrays and suggested he get the rest of his teeth pulled and a full set of dentures..my father has no pain from any of his existing teeth and has never had a toothache..why would the dentist suggest pulling them out?  Isn't it always better to leave any teeth if possible?  My understanding is that full mouth dentures are not very comfortable especially the bottom ones.  Why wouldn't you leave some of the teeth for anchors to attach an overlay denture?

Thank you.
