urinary retention

by mavin, Mar 13, 2007 12:00AM
I had Indigo Laser Surgery for BPH in Oct. 2006. My symptoms seem to be worse--partial retention, frequency, bloating. How successful is this surgery? Should I demand Greenlight Laser Surgery which is more invasive and supposedly more effective?

I wish I had tried the Green Laser! I had the microwave procedure & have had nothing but TROUBLE for the last six months.including feeling of having to have a BM, aches in the prostate area, Multiple UT infections, prostatis, scraping out of the uretha (surgery), cutting the area internally (surgery), multiple catheters, self catheters. Severe urination pain (back when I could urinate) & now, back to the office inserted catheter. I honestly don't think my doctor knows what to do next! My doctor is blaming scar tissue from prostate cancer radiation two years ago but I honestly feel that my problems are related to the microwave procedure! After the radiation & before the microwave my only two problems were frequency (every 2 hrs.) & urgency (had to hold myself to get to toilet) I could have lived with that but I succombed to the pressures & went for the procedure. So. I went from frequency & urgency, with a GOOD stream, to now, unable to urinate, not a drop. I look forward to hearing from others, it feels a little better to just get all this off my chest! Thank God this is my only health problem. I'm not a whiner, this is my first venture into a forum.

Thanks for your support. Is "microwave" the same as Indigo Laser surgery?
I went to my urologist today for a (second) cystoscopy and urodynamics test, after complaining for weeks of partial retention after voiding. It has been 5 months since my Indigo laser surgery. I take Uroxatral still, but my urologist insists I should be cured by now because he did an incision in the prostate. The tests today were all negative. He subtly told me my problem is almost certainly psychological, that there is nothing more that urology can do for me. My condition is not as severe as your's but it's very upsetting. My urologist noted that I've been bothering his staff by scheduling appointments when I'm in distress.
I asked him  about Greenlight and he kind of poo poohed it, saying it wouldn;t be effective in my case.Somehow, I have a hard time believing this.

I had tumt done in January 2008. I was taking Flomax and it made me so dizzy that I couln't function. A couple of months ago, I woke up in the middle of the night and had wet the bed. A few days later when I returned home, I got out of the car and felt the strong urge to urinate. I didn't make it to the bahthroom. A day or so later I fell asleep on the sofa watching tv and woke up on a soaking wet sofa and my shorts wet. I called my Uro who said  he had never heard of this happining after tumt. He called my in some Enablex which really dries my mouth out. The whole point of the tumt was to stop taking Flomax and I end up on Enablex. Anybody else have this problem.
