The doctor wants to look inside the bladder for any abnormalities. To do this, he inserts a tiny camera called a cystoscope through the urethra into the bladder itself to see what is going on. Back in the day, the camera was attached to a rigid tube and patients reported the procedure as uncomfortable. Nowadays, the tube is very pliant and flexible and more comfortable, therefore known as a flex cysto(flexible cystoscope).

IVP refers to a procedure where they inject a small amount of dye in your arm and use x-rays to observe its travels through the system.

In both cases, they are trying to discover the cause of a patient's complaints: i.e., blood in the urine, pain in the side, kidney stones, etc.

Stay well.
