20 month old w/low Mannose binding protein

by ShelleO, Nov 15, 2007 07:50PM
my son was born w/a VSD (hole in his heart). He is sick all of the time with ear infections (has tubes) and has always had a cough and runny nose. He wasn't even a year old when he was in the hospital w/Pneumonia. Every time we turn around we have a new sinus infection and cough to battle. He has been tested for Allergy and Asthma and does not have the common allergies and no asthma. We are lucky to have a great team of drs working on his case including a heart specialist, ENT specialist, and an Allergy/Asthma specialist.
They just tested his immune system and found white blood cell count and differential, platelet and hemoglobin are normal. Quantitive immunoglobulins are all within normal limits. Tetanus anitbody was protective, indicating good immune respons. What they did find was a low mannose binding protein (they are retesting to make sure). What is this? What does it mean for my little boy and how is it treated?
