I have a 4 yr old student with autism in my class who made great progress last year.  He recently received a MMR shot and has regressed so much that other teachers have even noticed.  I strongly feel now that the MMR shot could have some connection with autism.  Will my student recover to be able to function as high as he did before?  I feel discouraged because he is a strong willed student  and it took really hard work for him to advance so much.  How long should it take for him to regain the loss?  Any ideas? Do you have any information regarding reactions of autistic child receiving MMR shot?

um wow.. im so sorry . while the government .. and all its supporters.. will constantly state that the vaccination has done nothing to cause this regression, you can bet that indeed.. it has.  there should be more research.. more done.  when my son passed away due to the pertussis shot in 98,, i was told by the CDC that " one out of thousands is worth it"  when i got the vacccinations when i was around 6.. before. i was vibrant.. healthy.. and had full capacity. i then had a reaction.. and have never been the same. I have aspergers.. for sometime.. i was told it was moderate autism. i have learned to live with what I have..no two people are alike.. and there are some whos immune system cannot tolerate such things.... abotu recovering.. who knows.. i truly hope and pray that he does improve.

Unfortunately there is no time line for things like that.  

Although many vaccines are necessary I think that it's gotten quite out of control, seems like you can be vaccinated for everything now and days - what happened to an immune system that's why they are there!

There is a lot of questions surrounding certain vaccinations and the age at which they are given and their link to autism - but no proof of anything.

Keep working with him - he may regain, I know you're more sad and frustrated that he's lost or seems to have lost what he's accomplished - two steps forward one back.  Possibly work with him even more intensely this year and hopefully he will regain some of the things he's lost but only time will tell.

When I was 15 months old I had 4 seizures in one day. While doing my research regardign vacciens for my own kids. I asked my mom if sh eremembered if I had any vaccines prior to that happening. She cannot remember. Although I dont have a copy of my immunizations from then (1974) I as able to obtain a copy of the hospital visit when it happend. THe doc norted in his notes that I was up to date on my shots. I am still researching it and have actually called and talked to the CDC...it is possible that the MMR was on the schedule for 15 months...so I may have had a reaction to that.

My mom was given the Swine flu shot in 1976 (the same yr it was banned) when she was pregnant with my sister..she has not been the same since...she had gotten VERY sick right after getting it.

I am so sick of people taking their doctors word regarding shots as the holy grail (meanwhile the rest of us are nuts)

in 1974 when that doctor noted I was up to date guess what shots and only shot I had gotten DPT, MMR and Polio

take a look at the immunization schedule now ad see what kids all get up to 15 months of age...and IMAGINE THAT I ONLY GOT THOSE 3 AND AM STILL ALIVE!
