a little worried

by djwray, Nov 18, 2007 11:37PM
I started having a problem about 3 weeks ago. I started wetting the bed. I'm 37, female.
I went to a urologist, He is running test, told me I have microscopic blood in my urine, told me to cut out caffiene. and to stop drinking 1-2 hours before bed, and put me on vesicare. I also take valium the lowest strength and tizanidine 2mg. I've done what he said and i am taking the meds. still having the problem. I have no problem during the day. Even if I take a nap.
What worries me is my mother had renal cancer, had kidney removed. 10 years later the cancer was back and she passed away.
Any ideas on why this just started happening

Consider starting a voiding diary. It should record every time you drink, and how much, as well as every time you empty your bladder (day or night), and how much. It should also record when you have bed wetting. If most of your fluid intake is happening just before you go to bed, then cut back on the fluids you take in during the 2-3 hours before bedtime, and make sure to empty your bladder before you go to bed. If you have any heart problems, or if you spend a lot of time on your feet during the day, consider putting your feet up above your heart (i.e., lie down and put up your feet) for 1 hr, before you actually go to bed. This can sometimes move the fluid back into the kidneys so that you can empty it before going to sleep. Also look at any medications you are taking that could male you sleep so deep that you are not sensing a need to void at night. Valium could be one of them. The muscle relaxant may also be an issue depending on when you take it. There are sphincter muscles in the urethra which contract to help you hold your urine, and these can be affected by muscle relaxants. Consider also setting your alarm to wake you up at least once per night, after about 3-4 hrs, so that you cvan go void. This sometimes helps. Blood in the urine can mean a bladder infection, but if there is no positive culture, you probably need to get evaluated by a cystoscopy and a kidney/bladder CT scan to rule out more serious issues.

Please let the Forum know how this turns out for you.
