Gallbladder Attacks and Pregnancy

by chiebie, Nov 19, 2007 04:44AM
I am 7.5 weeks pregnant and having gallbladder pain pretty constantly.  I am on a gallbladder diet.  I am losing weight a little bit now but I am not concerned about that (neither is my doctor). I just want to avoid pain and stop it once it starts so I can eat a bit more and sleep a bit more!

Anyone have any suggestions for
- Pain Relief ideas (foods, drinks, supplements)
- Pain Avoidance ideas
- Good cooked vegetarian dishes (I am sick of just plain veggies and fruit)

Can I take bile salts while pregnant?
Can I take flax oil capsules while pregant and will that help?
Maybe I am not eating enough, and that is causing flair-ups?

My dr's nurse told me to eat fatfree crackers and jello. (shes also mean) when i went into talk to him though, he said FAT FREE. Since then, as long as it doesnt have too many spices or tomatoes im okay... Some fat free foods are good... Kashi Strawberry fields cereal is awesome! If you have a specialty market in your area, fat free crumpets (sp) and fat free cream cheese or maple syrup. I alway want meat. So i get whitefish and eat very little of it. I get tuna too. For huge cravings i get 99% fat free turkey and have one or two slices which adds up to like 0.03mcg's (+or-) Hiners 35 bread is fat free and fat free miracle whip. I have had to wait, and wait, and wait... so i get bored eating the same things over and over again. I had a craving for pancakes, and pancakes have about 6 grams of fat per pancake, atleast the ones i like do, but the crumpets in the toaster with fat free butter and maple syrup is almost as good as a pancake. If you are going to try to bake with fat free butter though, you may want to think again. I tried it, i had fire alarms going off because of the nasty smell... I cant believe its not butter fat free spray has tasted the best so far... There are plenty of foods out there. Some japanese restaurants will also cook to your needs. the one in my area will do no sodium for my uncle and no/very low fat for me... Just take plenty of time going through your grocery the next time you are there... Look at the things you have never tried before. Like ricecakes, they are soooo good. I bought fat free noodles, which were VERY hard to find, cooked broccoli carrots, little red potatoes, cauliflower, and zuccini in with them and the I cant believe its not butter spray, and it was great... I use alot of salt now though, which is probably bad for my heart, but the lack of fat kind of makes things bland. but, until i ate cookies the other day, that had lots of fat, i was doing wonderful on the no fat diet. Are you going to get your GB taken out while pregnant or wait until after the baby comes? Thats a heck of a long time to wait! Good luck, if i find any new recipies or anything interesting and tasty, ill let you know.

I had the same problem when I was PG with my 4th. The vitamin with Iron I was taking really gave me a pain. It almost felt like a heart attack. I switched to a different vitamin and after the delivery had my gallbladder out.
