underweight grandson

My grandson is 10 years old and weighs only 62 lbs.  He is just under 5 foot.  The doctor is trying to find out if it is physical or emotional.  She told him he had to start eating or he would die.  Does anyone know at what weight that he may start to experience organ damage or failure?

I am very sorry for what you are going threw , I don't know at what weight you have to be at for organ damage . plz just concentrate on getting him better. The doctor can take care of the pyscial part his mom might want to get him into a therapist for an evaluation. Best wishes I hope you find out what is going on.

A doctor told me that it takes at least 1000 calories for your organs to function to their full potential... don't quote me on that though... I'm 20 and female. the amount of cal's might vary from person to person, especially for a child.

So sorry to hear your situation, i can't even begin to imagine what you position would be like. A shrink might be a very good idea.
