My husbsand has chrohns disease and has been taking 1000 mg of fish oit daily and within one year his ulcers in his bowel are healed and can actually skip  a year of colonoscopy.  Of course he is still on other meds but his dr. said to keep doing what he is doing--its working!

Sorry I mispelled oil.  Also, when he has very bad flare ups after eating things that provoke his chrohns, he takes pepto bismal and that settles his belly after an hour or so.  Good luck!

Tam, has your husband tried Kefir instead of bismal?  Kroger carries this drink.  Lifeway Kefir has a website.  This is awesome stuff!

I am a stressed out wife of husband with Crohn's.  We have 3 small children and my husband has been hospitalized 8 times in 7 months.  My husband has been through this before and I am very well informed on the disease and feel as though I do everything in my power to help him anyway that I can.  My problem is not so much the Crohn's but everyone else.  I am expected to take care of everything and inform everyone of every little thing that goes on.  We found out that he is getting another surgery with 3 days notice and on top of everything else, I have to make sure that all of the family who doesn't care enough to call knows what is going on.  Anyone know how to support husband, take care of kids, and be everthing else to everyone. (I know it's called being a mom)  So many people say "if you need anything, let me know"  Some mean it and they are already there.  Then others you actually call to ask a favor and they can't be bothered.  These same people are the ones who have to be called during every step.  I am a very supportive wife and mother who can not take the stress that others are putting on me.  Everyone doesn't seem to understand my husband is sick all of the time.  They don't seem to understand that my children are watching these ups and downs on a daily basis. Yet I am always getting phone calls on why I didn't call to say he wasn't feeling well or why I didn't do this or that.   Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle all of this?  There isn't alot of support for spouses and children of people with Crohn's.

Sorry you are going through this. Have you heard about http://www.carepages.com/?

It's a great way to keep everyone informed without making a million phone calls.

Hope this helps.

I'm sure it is very hard on you. Try to imagine how your husband feels. I have extremely severe heart disease and my wife talks about how hard is on her. No one will ever understand how I feel. I call it being dealt a bad hand.

I have been suffering with low grade fever in the evenings for years which comes and stays for 2 months or more in a year. Now I have a fissure in the anal area with frequent bowl movement. Fatigue has prevented me from doing anything. I am suspecting crohn's disease. The doctor could not probe with the colonoscopy all the way because of the spasm I had with the colon. Too much suffering..........
