Stop Smoking

by Yaf, Nov 20, 2007 10:01AM
I am 2 1/2  months pregnant, I have been smoking for over 10 years now. When I heard that I was going to have a baby, I throught I could just throw the smokes away, but that it is not as easy as that. I use to smoke about 15 to 20 a day, now I have cut right down to 6 a day and some times 2 a day.

Is there anything that I can do to help me put them away for good.
Help Please.

Well, you do have a dilemma!  I don't have kids, but always have said if I were pregnant I would just stop smoking immediately, but who knows what reality would have brought.  Certainly 2 a day is better than even half a pack so congrats on that.   I don't think there is ever going to be an easy way to quit smoking and my best advice is to just go cold turkey.  You can't use any of the smoking cessation methods on the market while pregnant can you, so do you really have a choice?  Good luck to you hun and try to think of those tiny little lungs that are forming.  You don't want to do anything to hurt that precious new life forming in you.  Good luck Yaf, keep posting for strength.  You can do it.

Hey, think of it as the first gift you got for your child.  Would that help?

If you are pregnant, you must quit cold turkey now. No other way.  In 72 hrs your system will be free of nicotine then you have the mental ****, but you must do this today. Good luck.

Hi. I have to say Congrats to you for cutting down so much. I too was a smoker, and just found out I am pregnant, so obviously I'm quitiing too. But like you said, "Easier said than done!"... It just so happens I'm lucky to have a labor and delivery nurse as a sister-in-law, and she advised me to get on "the patch"... She says it's totally safe, and I would have to agree it's GOT to be better than having a cigarette. She said I wouldn't even need the patch after a month or two, depending on the individual's addiction ofcourse. Once I got that BFP result, that was it, I KNEW I HAD TO QUIT, and NOW!!! I will pray for you to come through this for yourself, and for your baby. I know it's tough, I'm right there with you, but it's mandatory now, so good luck! God Bless... =)

I know it may be difficult for you to quit...but you can do hard.....you can.....we live in a society where people think everything has to be easy.  When you get through this....think about what it will be like to look back and see the accomplishment you achieved!  I quit 7.5 years ago and don't think about it at all.  When I do think about it I think of how nice it is that I always smell good and am not beholding to cigarettes anymore.

You CAN do this, but it will take grit.  Are you up to it?

I can definitly relate to you, i had 3 children, stopped smoking with my first 2 pregnancies with no problem, than it was so hard for me to stop with my 3rd, I was very open about it with my doctor and I was terrified my whole pregnany that something would come out wrong with my daughter, thank god she came out healthy weighing 8lbs 11oz, I stopped smoking cigarettes when she was a year old. If she was to come out with asthma or something i would totally blame myself, so i can only hope and pray she continues to be healthy, not everyone is lucky though, I would highly suggest you do whatever it takes to stop smoking, i know first hand how hard it is, i really wish you the best of luck with quiting. But cutting down is a great start.
