Getting pregnant and cytotec

by redoctober, Nov 20, 2007 10:29PM
Hi, I have very crampy periods and I take a lot of painkillers, which creates a problem for my stomach.  I also take cytotec for 1-2 days during my period to help my stomach. I am now thinking about getting pregnant and I know that drug may cause birth defects if I take while pregnant. What I want to know is how long does cytotec remain in my bloodstream? Is it ok to get pregnant if I use the drug only the first two days of my period?

Check with your doctor for your questions.  From what I understand, cytotec is used to promote deliveries and shedding of the uterus and therefore might not be something you would want to take if you are trying to get pregnant. My doctor gave me cytotec so my body would naturally pass a missed miscarriage. You may want to look for more natural remedies for your menstrual cramps while trying to get pregnant. Mine were bad too and bananas, those menstrual heat pads plus ibuprofen and rest really helped. Good luck!

Cytotec taken orally has a different effect than when taken vaginally.  I also took it once to pass a missed miscarriage.  But it can be taken orally for stomach problems.  But I would definitely talk to your doctor about taking this while TTC.
