I woke up over a week ago and felt like a twenty-pound bag was sitting on my chest. Since then, I've been continually coughing and wheezing, especially when I lay down. I can hear fluid in my lungs when I breathe. Will this go away like the flu or should I persue a medical appointment?

Definitely, pursue a medical appointment.  You could well have pneumonia, especially if you have any fever.

Sounds like you need an x ray to rule out pnemonia. Perhaps go to urgent care or the emergency room
