Addicted to Sweets

by SpaceMaid, Nov 26, 2007 03:29AM
I am addicted to sweets and crisps and generally junk food. I become severly depressed when i eat food at all but when i eat more than say a packet of crispa a day i really start hating myself. i get really embarrassed when i eat in front of people and when i eat meals with my parents i make myself sick afterwards and when i am with my friends i refuse to eat which makes them inquire as to why they never see me eat. I have just gone 4 days without eating anything, i know i can stop doing this as long as i kick my addiction for junk food. Does anyone know how i can do this? I am 14 year old girl and i live in britain. Please help, it's ruining my life.

To: Spacemaid -
Addicted to sweets is common with bulimia - binge/purge or any other eating disorder.  Do you feel dehydrated too?  Your body is craving sugar and salt, apparently there's something missing in your diet.  4 days without food is starvation obviously.  Refusing to eat in front of others is another common eating disorder symptom.  Please get professional help before the health problem worsens.  This is a very serious condition and beginning of a pattern that will be very difficult to break.

It is a pretty easy problem to solve, eat normally, work out normally, and you will live normally

I have help, i see a consultant psychiatrists for self harm and social phobia. But he always talks about how to stop the anxieties. I can't talk to him about this. I don't want to continue on getting help. I want this just to stop.

You need to continue on getting help, this won't stop overnight.  Why can't you talk to him about this?  I understand if you do not feel comfortable but you do need to find someone that you feel comfortable with such as a nutritionist.  The thing is, when I was in the hospital eating disorders go right along with cutting, self-harm and social issues so I would see someone that can incorporate all of these issues.  You will be okay.  I was doing the same exact thing you are doing, the 4 day starve and then a complete binge of just sweets and junk food.  I could never get back on track but after LOTS of therapy, I'm getting there.  Hang in there and keep talking and reaching out.  Good luck sweetie.

Do you have any family support?
